Chikara karate club scores a hat trick
Basingstoke karate club Chikara has announced that three of its students have passed their latest gradings in front of the Japanese Karate Association (JKA) England's Technical Director, Sensei Adel Ismail.
Nearly 100 students attended the grading at IBM, Hursley that was led by Sensei Adel Ismail (5th Dan). The day started with two training sessions - the first for senior grades (brown and black belts), and the second for junior grades (beginners to purple belts). The grading itself consisted of three parts that students had to perform in front of Sensei Ismail:
- Khion: basic blocks, punches, kicks and combinations
- Kata: a set sequence of techniques
- Kumite: controlled sparring
Of the three students Chikara entered for the grading, all passed. Dan Oliver achieved 4th kyu (purple belt with white stripes); Oliver Watson, aged nine, passed his 7th kyu (yellow belt); and Sophie Watson, aged eleven, excelled during her examination and double-graded from beginner to 8th kyu (red belt).
"Dan, Oliver and Sophie have all worked incredibly hard during training and thoroughly deserve their new grades. Everyone at the club is really proud of them," said Chikara's Chief Instructor, Sensei Rob Sibley (2nd Dan). "Karate is great for men and women of all ages and abilities. And with regular training, dedication, hard work and a real willingness to learn you can achieve a high level of self defence, giving you confidence, awareness and fitness."
Chikara is always open to new students. The club trains on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 7pm-8:30pm, at the Brighton Hill Community College, Basingstoke. And the first lesson is free. For more information, please contact Rob Sibley: 07917 595129 / info@chikara-basingstoke-karate.co.uk
