Welcome to Chikara Basingstoke Karate Club
We are a very friendly, long established club teaching authentic traditional Shotokan Karate in Basingstoke, Hampshire. Chikara are affiliated to the Japan Karate Association England, which is part of the famous JKA World Federation. We don't seek to make any profit and all proceeds are paid back into the club.
Because we teach authentic traditional Shotokan Karate that is hundreds of years old we put great focus on the individual techniques required to progress, from the Kihon (basics) right through to Kata (forms) and Kumite (controlled sparring). The synergy of all 3 come together, with the mind and spirit to create powerful, dynamic techniques.
All our Gradings are taken by either Sensei Ohta 7th Dan JKA or Sensei Ismail 5th Dan JKA. You have a direct link to Japan itself! National Courses are run on a regular basis all over the country with guest instructors from the headquarters of the JKA in Tokyo, coming over to teach. We have an excellent track record in gradings with a high level of black belt passes.
With regular training, dedication, hardwork and a real willingness to learn you can achieve a high level of self defence, giving you confidence, awareness and fitness. It's also an excellent stress buster!
